This katsina doll is carved by Brian Holmes from Hotevilla.
He is 7" tall and 10" overall.
Depending upon the Mesa, some Hopis will call him a Blue Bear (Sakwahonkatsina) and others will call him a Blue Badger (sakwahonankatsina).
Honankatsina is a Badger Katsina, and appears during Angk’wa or the summer katsina day dances. He provides the herbal medicine and represents the medicinal culture, and also serves as a messenger for rain.
Hònkatsina (bear) is a healer for the sick. He appears in the mixed katsina group. He also might be seen either singly or in a group during the Paalölöqng Ceremony.
